Description

Sensorium Technological Laboratories is a venture-backed startup company spun out of Vanderbilt University, founded by Prof. Josh Caldwell (CEO), Prof. Simone De Liberato (CTO), and Dr. Davide Venturelli.

The company is currently developing an alternative to non-dispersive infrared (NDIR) gas sensors using patent-pending emitter and filter technologies developed within the Caldwell laboratory at Vanderbilt. The company is poised to break into the semiconductor processing and environmental sensing/monitoring industries in the coming year, and will target soon the NATO defense market.

The candidate should have a firm understanding of at least some of the following topics: semiconductor devices, electronic circuit design, gas sensing methodologies, infrared nanophotonic material and device design, nanoscale fabrication, electromagnetic modeling, and infrared characterization. The successful candidate will join our Nashville-based team to assist in cutting edge research and development, including design and fabrication of multi-frequency infrared emitters, bandpass filters, gas cells, detectors, electronic components and integration.

Desired Qualifications

We are looking for a highly self-motivated, focused candidate, with a strong work ethic, excellent technical and teamworking skills. Candidates should hold a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph.D. degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, Optics, or a related discipline. We’re a highly interdisciplinary team so the successful candidate must be self-motivated, able to integrate themselves well within the team, and flexible in work assignments. Experience or understanding of early-stage startup culture and dynamics is a plus.

The candidate will interact and work directly with CEO Prof. Josh Caldwell, CTO Prof. Simone De Liberato, and two other experienced early-career scientists on staff, as well as with new recruits as the company grows. The whole team is committed to mentoring and facilitating career development. The following skills are highly desirable:

• Semiconductor growth or fabrication
• Proficiency in advanced techniques using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, infrared laser-based spectroscopy and/or infrared optics and device design, or other optical spectroscopic methods
• Proficiency in electromagnetic modeling of polaritonic, metamaterial, two-dimensional materials, and/or nanophotonic devices
• Proficiency with nanofabrication
Experience with electronics integration of OEM components highly desired.

Salary and Benefits

Salary to be determined commensurate with experience and degree. Full benefits including health and dental insurance, matching contributions to 401(k) are provided. Possible participation to stock option plan from year-2.
